Jason Leonard Ryan, 35, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to ice trafficking and a range of mostly drug-related charges.
Defence counsel Rebecca Digney said Ryan had been in custody since being arrested on July 11 and that had been particularly difficult as he had been withdrawing from drug addiction.
Magistrate John Lesser said he did not know the answer to Ryan's problems but a corrections order would be put in place as part of a penalty aimed at supporting him on release from prison.
He said Ryan was again at the crossroads and would go one of two ways - either recover or keep coming back to court.
The magistrate said Ryan's drug issues dated back to a possessing cannabis charge in 1995 although throughout much of the 2000s there was no offending.
Ryan was jailed for 45 days, with 15 days counted as served.
On release he will then be on a 15-month community corrections order with conditions he do 100 hours of community work and undertake tratment and rehabilitation for drugs issues.
Police said that in mid December last year they saw a silver Holden in Warrnambool's Crawley Street which accelerated away.
The car's owner told police Ryan had borrowed the car.
On January 18 Ryan was charged with possessing cannabis and theft and released on bail but he failed to attend court on April 18.
Then on May 21 Mr Ryan went to a Raglan Parade milkbar and inquired about the price of an item.
When s staff member went to check the price, Ryan stole $90 from the cash register and left although the offence was caught on a security camera.
Earlier this month, Ryan was at a Saltau Street home in Warrnambool when police raided the property.
He ran into a bedroom and hid in a wardrobe.
There was a warrant out for his arrest and Ryan was taken into custody.
In handcuffs he tried to adjust his underwear and police searched him.
In his underwear they found a small bag of cannabis, 10 ecstasy tablets valued at $200, just over 2.5 grams of ice and 106 strips of Suboxone.
In a pocket they located a container with 4.68 grams of ice, valued at about $4500.
The wardrobe there was .1 grams of ice, 5.41 grams of heroin, $90 in cash, a zip lock bag with 3.5 grams of ice and scales with Ryan's name on them.
In a zinc roll-on container there was also one ecstasy tablet.
Police found a machete, dagger and nunchucks in the main bedroom of the home.
