Michael West, 27, previously of Ocean Grove, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to 17 charges.
He was jailed for four months, with 45 days already served, and on release from prison will be on a community corrections order for 15 months with treatment and rehabilitation conditions for drug use.
West was also fined $300 and ordered to pay $1600 compensation.
Police allege he was involved in three separate family violence incidents in the days before his arrest in mid June.
He punched and smashed a TV at his partner's home, punched 16 holes in plaster walls and two in internal doors.
Police said that on September 25 last year the owner of a car was helping a friend move homes when the keys to his Holden Commodore sedan went missing.
Two days later the victim was organising the RACV to tow his car.
He was at a BP service station when he heard his vehicle's exhaust and saw his car travelling east along Raglan Parade.
He reported it stolen.
On November 2 West took the car to VicRoads and tried to put it into his name using false documents.
Police were called and West was charged.
Soon after that West and his partner moved into a Davis Street home with friends after their home had caught fire.
West woke up disgruntled, told his partner he hated her, pushed her and said he as going to take their child.
He pushed her again, attempted to choke her and she tried to call 000.
While changing a nappy West called the woman to bring him a nappy.
When she did he pushed her face into the soiled nappy.
In mid January an intervention order was put in place banning West from his partner's home.
On April 17 police officers attended the woman's Bostock Street home after becoming aware West was living there.
West agreed he had stayed there the past two days but claimed both he and his partner thought he could be at the home.
At 8pm on June 8 West was at the home when he became angry.
He told his partner to contact police because he was "going to lose my shit".
He smashed a TV screen and fled before police arrived but returned to the home later.
The woman said she was so scared she didn't call police.
A couple of days later he punched 13 holes in plaster walls and two holes in door.
Two days later he punched three more holes in walls and the woman fled the home with her children.
When West was arrested he had grazed knuckles and told police he had been "pissed off and lost my shit".
A solicitor said West and his partner had a toxic relationship and there had been paternity issues relating to their children.
Magistrate John Lesser said West clearly had issues that could hopefully be addressed through a community corrections order which would follow a jail term.
"It's clear you will serve some time in custody but ultimately you will get some support to reduce the risk of coming back to court again and again," he said.
West was also ordered to pay $800 compensation for damaging the television and anther $800 for smashing the plaster walls.
He has 164 prior criminal convictions.
