Cricketers from clubs including Nestles, Woodford, East Warrnambool and Killarney have joined the league at Active Sports and are using it to improve overlapping skills between the sports.
Nestles opening batsman Geoff Williams said he used the game as a way to stay on top of hitting gaps and improving his running between the wickets.
“I’ve played indoor cricket since forever, but I coach the junior program at Nestles as well. For the last four or five years I’ve had a team with my under 17 side,” he said.
“It’s interesting to come up against the blokes you’re playing against for premiership points on a Saturday, but in a social environment.
“You also get to work on a different skill set. Indoor cricket has a heavy emphasis on things like hitting gaps and finding different ways to score.” Williams said it was a platform for banter and allowed players to enjoy the lighter side of cricket.
