DRAG race enthusiasts are vowing to fight on despite receiving what it describes as a “kick” from Moyne Shire Council.

The council quashed Warrnambool and District Drag Racing Association’s plans to build a new strip at Koroit.
At a council meeting on Tuesday, Moyne councillors went against a planning department recommendation to grant a permit. Councilors voted 5-1 to knock back the application for a track on the site of the former Koroit racecourse.
Drag racing association president Tony Frost said the fight would continue.
“The decision is a huge kick for us. We are very disappointed after all the hard work we have done,” Mr Frost said.
“But we have shown we won’t go away. We have had plenty of hurdles put in front of us and we have always jumped them. The decision has knocked the wind out of our sails but we are motivated, we will bounce back.”
Mr Frost said the association would meet in coming days to look at its options.
These options could include trying to find another location or appealing the decision.
The association has been working towards securing the site for the past five years. Estimates for building the strip sit at $1.5 million.
Mr Frost said the club’s hard work meant it would have had enough money to start on the track if the planning permit had been granted. He said it was well placed to apply for government funding but needed a location secured.
