A south-west musician, composer, jeweller and visual artist, Glennen will release her second album Dead Reckoning at Port Fairy’s Lecture Hall next Saturday, August 6.
Influenced by the region’s rich Anglo-Celtic traditions, Glennen’s songs are based on the region’s landscape and her family’s long relationship with the sea.
Her second album has been described as being darker than her first, and more mysterious, yet her words have captured the essence of the human heart.
Dead Reckoning is self-produced, recorded by Pete Bird from Yelp Studios and with additional recording by fellow south-west local Shane Howard.
Glennen’s debut album Two Pink Turtles was released in 2000, produced by Howard. Since then, she has performed at various venues and festivals; both in Australia and overseas.
While she has worked hard to balance being both an artist and mother, her voice and songwriting ability have grown and she now speaks with a gentle authority and understanding of the mysteries of life.
Howard, a producer and local music legend, worked with Glennen to produce the album across the past five years.
“I lived with the record, working on it and listening to it a thousand times and I haven’t wearied of it at all,” he said.
“There is a beautiful truth to the songs that speak something universal. It deserves to be heard further afield. It’s a world-class album.”
Glennen will be joined on stage next weekend by Shane Howard, Pete Bird, Brenton Smith and Myra Howard with some special guests.
The event begins at 7.30pm with tickets available at the Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre.
