Second man charged over Portland shooting

A PORTLAND man, 31, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Detective Senior Constable Jack Beanland, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said this morning the man was arrested, interviewed and charged yesterday before appearing in front of a bail justice at an out-of-sessions hearing about 9pm last night.

The man was bailed to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on February 12 next year.

He was released on his own undertaking with conditions he report to police three times a week, not contact prosecution witness and reside at an address in Portland.

It is understood that a number of men are continuing to assist police with their inquiries after Portland man Troy Hocking, 20, suffered a gunshot wound on Monday and died in the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Leonard Sciascia, 26, of Princes Highway, Heywood, appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court yesterday charged with murder.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until February 12 next year.
