Instead of floating the lanterns off the shore, children who had made the lanterns and their families paraded them around Battery Hill to create an enchanting sight.
Hot chocolate, warm mulled wine, paella and the excitement of children helped people shrug off the cold conditions on Sunday night and enjoy the conviviality that Port Fairy does well.
Festival organisers said the success of this year’s seven weekend format has encouraged them to try something similar next year.
Highlights of this year’s festival were a film and food event, night light shows and movies.
