The council are calling on the public to provide feedback on the land’s future at one of three sessions held across the shire on Monday, July 25.
The Glenelg Rural Land Use Strategy will soon be finalised and aims to identify and address existing and emerging issues across the shire.
Glenelg Shire planner Liz Regent said the input of local residents would assist in making decisions on the use of the land and was the next stage of council’s strategy.
“This strategy will assist council in pinpointing an area suitable for a particular rural development,” Cr Regent said.
“It is looking at agricultural value and how to protect, and grow, this important sector for generations to come.”
Those interested in the “protection of agricultural land” who want to see “continued growth in the sector” are invited to join the conversation at sessions held in Heywood council offices from 10am, Cape Bridgewater Surf Life Saving Club from 2pm and Portland Civic Hall from 6pm.
