THERE’S nothing like a swap meet to bring out automotive treasure hunters seeking that elusive rare spare.
Hundreds of people are expected to swoop this Saturday on Warrnambool’s Friendly Societies Park, where stallholders will have thousands of bits and pieces for cars, bikes and trucks.
Enthusiasts will also be able to admire entries in a show ’n’ shine display as part of the fund-raiser organised by Warrnambool and District Drag Racing Association.
Association vice-president Paul Cleaver will show his gleaming project car, a Falcon GT replica built from a 1970 XY Fairmont shell.
“I’ve always wanted to have a blue XY,” he said.
“I started collecting bits for it eight years ago with pieces from swap meets even before I had the car. The shell had been sitting in a shed for 22 years owned by a bloke who wanted to do it up, but never got around to it. Swap meets are all about trying to find bits for your car project.
“When they don’t make the parts any more, where else do you find them for a good price?
“It’s also a place to catch up with people for a chat.”
The show ’n’ shine is open to all makes and models of cars and motorbikes. Gates open at 6am.
Entry is free for stallholders and $5 for general admission and car display entries.
