She is one of nine new international students who started in the second semester at the Warrnambool campus, joining six from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and other students from Chicago and Canada.
All students are living on campus. Marine biology is the main attraction with students from The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater completing the final year of their course as part of a long-established connection with Warrnambool.
Ms Hicks, 20, said that apart from the appeal of studying in another country, she wanted to come to Warrnambool to see the effects of climate change on the other side of the world.
