New entrance signs were delivered this week thanks to acclaimed artist David Higgins, Bamstone, Moyne Shire and the Federal Government, and Purnim Signage Working Group member Geoff Rollinson said the feedback had been positive.
“My wife was saying she already heard three or four people say they’re really terrific and quite unique,” Mr Rollinson said.
“We’re quite pleased.”
The signs depict a manna gum leaf, which was selected to symbolise the present landscape as well as the indigenous connection to the land.
The next two parts of the process will be adding the town name to the monument and installing solar powered lighting so the signs can be visible to motorists 24/7.
Mr Rollinson said the new signs coincided with what is believed to be the 150th anniversary of Purnim being officially gazetted as a town, with a celebration being planned for later this year.
