Forgeress, a last start Sandown winner, who has earnt $200,000 in stakemoney, is destined for the breeding barn within months, but if she fails to run well in Saturday's race her racing career may be over.
Respected trainer Quinton Scott said the six-year-old needs to show zest and is willing to take part in the 1200-metre race.
“Forgeress was a strong winner last time," Scott said.
"She's going to the breeding barn – s soon as she shows she does not want to race anymore, she'll be retired.
“She's owes her connections nothing.
“She's been so honest in her races. I would say she's been only about two lengths behind the top class mares and sprinters during her career."
Apprentice jockey Jordan Childs replaces fellow apprentice Jessica Payne for the ride on Forgeress.
“Jessica could not ride Forgeress," Scott said.
"I wanted a claiming apprentice to ride her so I went for Jordan. He's a good young rider. His 1.5kg claim should a a bonus.
“The heavier the track the better for her. I galloped her on the course proper over 1000 metres at Warrnambool on Wednesday and I was happy with her work."
Forgeress is rated an $8 chance in the early betting markets on the race.
Fellow Crossley trainer Mitch Freedman has two runners on the nine-race card at Caulfield. He saddles up Marwood and Vanilla Gold.
Symon Wilde accepted with Ilgattino in a $50,000 race, while Caron Maher runs Dunamite, Kapour and Lady Esprit.
Darren Weir's Warrnambool satellite stables has numerous runners including Au Revoir, Camdus and Ulmann.
