With Warrnambool and District A grade netball heading into what she dubbed “round two” – with teams set for return matches against opponents they have already met this season – the battle for top five spots is as intriguing as ever.
Old Collegians is just holding off the chasing pack of Kolora-Noorat, Allansford (six wins) and Russells Creek (five) thanks to its two extra points from a draw.
A small pack of front-runners for the double-chance is emerging, with Merrivale a game clear on top of the ladder, closely followed by Nirranda and Dennington, who hold a two-game break on fourth-placed Panmure.
But McDonald (pictured left) said given the closeness of the competition, the race for a top five spot and even the double chance was still wide open.
“It’s going to be fairly interesting – you’ve also got Panmure coming on the outside (of the top three),” she said.
“Because they have changed and because there have been so many changes, teams are only just starting to settle.
“You can’t really count anyone out at the moment.”
McDonald said the Tigers are thrilled to be leading the way with 10 wins to their name, and put their success down to their ability to work well as a team.
Despite having players filter in and out of the side – with a few midyear niggling injuries also rearing their heads – Merrivale has gone from strength to strength.
“We’ve got areas we’re working on … (but) I think everyone is digging in and understanding how each person plays as an individual,” McDonald said.
