The 20 pupils from the Mini Vinnies initiative at St Patrick’s Primary School and the outside school hours care program at both St Pat’s and Koroit and District Primary School toured the Foodshare depot in Warrnambool’s industrial estate on Tuesday.
They presented Foodshare executive officer Dedy Friebe with the canned goods and spreads.
Wendy Cossens, from the outside school hours care program, said student Estelle Evans approached her wanting to help others who were less fortunate.
“We came up with an idea for a can and spread drive,” she said. “We started on June 1 and ran for 20 days. We wanted to get 200 cans of food in 20 days.”
Ms Cossens said the students had exceeded that number, with donations almost totalling 300. Donation points included Koroit IGA, churches, childcare centres and both of the schools.
