The Reubens and Gunners Office Equipment, which competed in Monday and Wednesday night pennant competitions respectively, took out the titles on Friday at the Timor Street complex.
The Reubens’ Ollie Bridgewater, Penny Gunner, Jason Bilson, Jackson Fary and Ash Walker proved too strong for Tame Impala in the Monday night contest, storming to a five-nil whitewash after their previous battle went down to points.
Bilson said The Reubens found their rhythm in the decider after a tough semi-final.
“The semi-final was pretty close. We beat them on points but they had more rubbers,” he said.
“The grand final was a complete turnaround and pretty convincing in the end.”
Underdog Gunners Office Equipment shocked Molan Auto Electrical, which was the top team all season, to claim the Wednesday night prize.
Pat Allen’s triumph over the previously undefeated Mark Faragher was the catalyst for Gunners Office Equipment’s 3-1 win.
Bilson said 11 teams of five competed in the Monday night competition and eight teams of four in the Wednesday night season.
“To keep going and be viable we need existing players to keep playing, old players to come back and new players,” he said.
The club, now settled in at Timor Street after relocating from its former Mortlake Road premises, will start new seasons on July 18 and 20.
