Joshua Van Heughten, 27, of Bradley Street, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to drink driving and was convicted and fined $450 with $117 costs.
Police said that on March 20 at 1am Van Heughten was driving along Raglan Parade when he drove onto a footpath and just missed a traffic light.
Thirty minutes later he recorded a blood alcohol reading of .198 and his driver's licence was immediately suspended.
Van Heughten said he didn't know why he had driven, saying he had no reason and losing his licence had made life difficult as a plumber.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said Van Heughten had no prior court appearances and had pleaded guilty but he warned the defendant not to be tempted to drive while he was disqualified for 19 months.
