Mr Lyon was 27. He died peacefully on Friday in hospital surrounded by friends and family.
Mr Lyon and his family shared their story with The Standard recently, explaining how humour had kept them going through the tough times since his diagnosis.
His friends recently held a worldwide 24-hour online gaming session to help raise money so Mr Lyon could visit the Great Barrier Reef – one of his dying wishes. He never got to make that trip.
A celebration of his life will be held at Eastern Park Chapel in Warrnambool from 2pm Wednesday, followed by a wake at the Seanchai, where Mr Lyon was a regular at the weekly trivia nights. People are encouraged to wear something purple – Mr Lyon’s favourite colour.
Mr Lyon was a kind and funny man who will be sadly missed.
