Portland Lutheran convention attracts 200

MORE than 200 Lutheran pastors and lay delegates from Lutheran congregations throughout Victoria and Tasmania will gather in Portland from tomorrow for the church’s district convention.

Topics to be discussed include a vision for education at Lutheran schools in Victoria and Tasmania and initiatives to implement the church’s theme of “Where Loves Comes to Life” for the next two years.

Elections for district executive positions will also take place during the convention.

Among those attending will be the Lutheran Church of Australia national president Pastor Dr Mike Semmler and LCA Victoria and Tasmania president Pastor Greg Pietsch.

The event has attracted the largest registration for a Victoria and Tasmania district convention and will run until Sunday.

The pastors’ conference will take place at St John’s Lutheran Church, Portland and Quest apartments’ MacKillop Room from tomorrow until Friday.

The convention will take place at St John’s Lutheran Church Portland on Friday and at the Unity Centre, St John’s Lutheran Primary School on the Saturday and Sunday.

Events open to the public are the Opening Worship service on Friday at 7.15pm at St John’s Lutheran Church in Tyers Street and the closing worship service on Sunday at 11am at the Unity Centre in Trangmar Street.

Portland-Heywood Pastor Richard Schwedes said venues for the district convention were regularly rotated around the district and the Portland-Heywood congregation had nominated to host this year’s event.
