The fast-starting Rebels – they shot out to a 29-point quarter-time lead – fell five points short against Sandringham Dragons at Eureka Stadium.
“There was not a lot of difference statistically but we couldn’t quite sustain our effort in the last quarter,” Rebels coach Gerard FitzGerald said.
“Of their 13 goals, they kicked four in eight minutes – the first two goals of the game in five minutes and the last two in four minutes.
“We have to learn to concentrate really hard.”
Camperdown rebounding defender Cedric Cox was among the Rebels’ best with 17 disposals and five marks, while South Warrnambool key forward Shannon Beks slotted two goals and Portland excitement machine Jamaine Jones booted one.
The Rebels host Western Jets at Stawell’s Central Park on Sunday.
