The fifth-placed Magpies have had to contend with a raft of injuries, notably losing forwards Jordan Bain and Beau James to season-ending knee injuries, while skilled midfielders Luke Clarke and Cam Spence have also been among the wounded.
But after looking in serious trouble with three losses in a row, Camperdown has dragged its season back on track with consecutive wins.
Gallichan credited the Magpies’ ability to find alternative avenues to goal and increasing confidence for their turnaround.
“With Jordan Bain going down, we had to change the whole style we play, get the ball in quicker,” he said.
“(The wins) were a confidence boost; confidence breeds confidence.
“If we can keep going the way we’re going, I can’t see why we won’t finish top five.”
The shifting of roles and positions in the team has given more players the chance to step up and show what they have to offer.
Gallichan has been one such beneficiary, thriving since taking on a bigger workload in the middle of the ground.
He was best on ground for the Magpies in their wins over Hamilton Kangaroos and Portland and is hoping to lead the charge again when they take on Terang Mortlake this Saturday.
“I’m spending more time in the midfield now to develop that role and I’m still finding the legs to keep running in the last quarter,” he said.
