Hampden interleague representative Brendan Moore is nursing a fractured wrist.
But Blues coach John Cook is making the most of Moore’s football nous, calling on him for advice since a fractured scaphoid bone sidelined him two weeks ago.
“The thing about Brendan is not only is he a fantastic player but he’s a genuine leader,” Cook said.
“It’s a cliche but he’s a student of the game so he thinks deeply about the way the game is played.”
Cook said Moore hurt himself in round seven but did not discover the extent of the damage for a fortnight.
“It’s a notoriously very slow-healing bone,” he said.
“He did it against Portland and played the following week against Terang.
“It wasn’t getting any better, was giving him a bit of pain and he was struggling to train so he decided to have a rest against Cobden.
“He then went and got a scan and the result was a fracture.
“He has to keep it imobolised for a month to see how it goes.”
Cook said the third-placed Blues, coming off consecutive losses for the first time since 2012, expected Moore to make an immediate impact when he returned.
“He’s one of the fittest guys in the league I reckon,” he said.
“He can start running now. He’s the type of conscientious guy who will make sure his motor doesn’t diminish at all.”
