FRIDAY
SCULPTURE: The opening of the Sculpture Trail is at Port Fairy’s Limestone Gallery from 6pm to 7.30pm. Follow the artistic path around town, including the burning of the wickerman.
ART: The Annual Awards Exhibition Opening will be at the Merri View Gallery in Coramba Court, Warrnambool at 7.30pm. The exhibition runs until Sunday, July 10 and showcases the talents of many local artists.
SATURDAY
SPORT: AFL Victoria will present Dairy Day at the Cobden Recreation Reserve from noon. Hampden league teams Koroit and Cobden will battle it out on the field, while the event also showcases the value of local dairy farmers in the area. Celebrities lending a hand on the day will include football great Kevin Sheedy, Australian cricketers John Rantall and Merv Hughes and comedian Dave Hughes.
ENTERTAINMENT: Relive the greatest hits from the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, in the new two-hour show, Elvis if I can Dream, at Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre from 8pm.
MOVIE: A Feature in the Port Fairy Winter Weekend program is “Film and Food: Big night” at Port Fairy’s Reardon Theatre in Bank Street. Enjoy aperativo in the foyer before a live demonstration of pasta making and screening of the film.
SUNDAY
SWIMMING: Brave the cold waters of Port Fairy’s East Beach to help celebrate the passing of the shortest day of the year. This year’s Winter Solstice dawn swim begins at 7am.
CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT: The largest children’s event in the southern hemisphere begins its week-long activities for youngsters. More than 80 different activities will entertain children aged between two and 12 across its 2.5 acres of fun. Go to www.fun4kids.com.au for more details.
MOVIE: Corangamite Film Society will host the 1992 Irish film, The Crying Game at Camperdown’s Theatre Royal from 2pm. A crime drama reliving the times of the IRA, this film is rated MA15+ .
TIME TO RIDE: The Cobden Miniature Railway is at Graylands Road, Cobden from 11am until 4pm.
