This is just one of the lessons that Bus Association Victoria were reminding grade one and two students at Warrnambool East Primary School on Wednesday as part of their sessions marking Bus Safety Week.
BusVic executive director Chris Lowe said the program – launched by Transport Safety Victoria and Bus Association of Victoria (BusVic) – was designed to remind people that bus safety needed to concern everyone.
“Bus safety is a shared responsibility including drivers, parents, principals, commuters, pedestrians and passengers. We all have a role to play,” Dr Lowe said.
Students were quick to recall the lessons learned.
“You have to stand back from the edge of the road,” Amelia Tuck, 6, said.
“You have to get off the bus safely, you get off and wait until it’s clear to cross the road,” Josh Nesbitt, 8, said.
