Amart Sports will replace Ray’s Outdoors opposite the Homemaker Centre on Raglan Parade. The swap comes as Ray’s Outdoors is expected to post a loss this financial year.
In a statement to the stock market, Super Retail Group, which owns Ray’s Outdoors stores, announced earlier this month that 12 stores would be re-branded to new-look RAYS stores, 16 would remain open and be converted to another brand within the group and the remaining 23 would be closed or converted depending on their financial status. The statement did not reveal plans for individual stores.
But a Super Retail Group spokeswoman said the Warrnambool store would be replaced with another business from within the group.
“We’re pleased that the store is being converted to an Amart Sports,” she said. “We don’t have confirmed dates for the switch-over yet, but it’s expected to be around late September, early October.”
She said the changes were about making sure the right stores were in the right locations for customers.
Super Retail Group houses retail brands including BCF Boating Camping Fishing, Rebel Sports and Supercheap Auto.
“We are committed to continuing to serve our local customers with the right range of brands and physical store footprint to meet their needs, as well as through our online stores,” the spokeswoman said.
Amart Sports offer a range of sporting goods including clothing and exercise equipment. The store will be Warrnambool’s third sports shop, with Independent Sports at the Homemaker Centre and Sports Power in Liebig Street.
