Lachlan Fedele, 18, of Glasgow Street in Warrnambool, pleaded guilty on Monday in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to stealing from a supermarket.
The court heard Fedele was already on bail after being charged with making threats and weapon offences in Melbourne.
Police said Fedele and three women went to the Coles supermarket at Gateway Plaza in Warrnambool about 3.40pm on Sunday.
They were carrying two sports bags and put hair and beauty products, deodorant and whipped cream in the bags.
A store manager became suspicious and the group left without paying.
Staff obtained vehicle registration details and reported the matter to police.
Security camera footage was provided.
Police arrested Fedele at his home on Sunday night and he was held in custody.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said spending a night in the police cells was an appropriate punishment but he warned Fedele: “You are not in the Children's Court anymore.”
