On Saturday, Fraser, who is a development coach at Carlton and coaches the club’s VFL affiliate the Northern Blues, made his debut for Tatyoon on Saturday.
Fraser, 34, showed he has lost none of his class as he kicked seven goals in a standout performance.
His haul was a significant factor in Tatyoon’s 18-point win over reigning premier Lismore-Derrinallum.
Carlton runner and Northern Blues strength and conditioning coach Matthew Pell also played for Tatyoon with his contribution in the midfield earning him a place in the best players.
Tatyoon coach Adrian Pilgrim played with Pell more than a decade ago at the then Northern Bullants.
“It all just fell into place, really, with getting Josh,” he said. “We have some connections in Melbourne and one of them is Matty Pell and he was keen to have a run.
“He asked Josh if he was interested and he was so we are thrilled to have them both.
“We are hoping to get six or seven games out of Josh, it is all dependent on his commitments with the Northern Blues and Carlton.
“On Saturday he kicked a goal in the first quarter and six in the second. He was great to have around the group, he soon worked out who was who and helped organise things on the ground.
“It’s great for our club and the league to have a player like that coming down here and wanting to play.”
Fraser played 200 games for Collingwood including the 2002 and 2003 grand finals.
He joined the Gold Coast Suns in 2011 where he went on to play 18 games.
Fraser was thrust into the spotlight before his AFL career had even begun when he was selected as the number one pick in the 1999 national draft.
He has been active since his retirement in 2012, spending time in the media before coaching the Gold Coast Suns reserves team in 2014.
