Volunteers collected at six Warrnambool and District Football Netball League (WDFNL) games.
Salvation Army corps officer Major Peter Wood said the public were generous and recognised the important work they did.
“The farming community has been really very supportive of the Red Shield Appeal in the midst of their turmoil,” Major Wood said.
“We had a good weekend at the football, the public were very receptive.
“We’re hoping for $20,000. We’re halfway and there’s another week of the appeal to go.”
Donations will go towards community support services, including emergency relief and crisis accommodation within the south-west.
“It relies on people donating and supporting the Red Shield Appeal. It’s a national appeal that supports services locally,” Major Wood said.
He said the WDFNL was supportive of their annual fundraising efforts and had been for a number of years.
“The clubs are very supportive, they forgo their raffle (for that week).”
Major Wood said volunteers would be door knocking this weekend and collectors would also be at Warrnambool intersections on Saturday and Sunday.
“People can drop donations into (the Warrnambool Corps in) Lava Street if they don’t see us around. They can make a credit card donation there as well.”
The Red Shield Appeal runs until June 5.
