Narrawong will use the funds to highlight the region’s indigenous heritage and culture by creating two permanent public art installations at Mt Clay and the Narrawong Community Reserve, while Birregurra will turn its idle Mechanics Institute Hall into an arts hub.
Minister for creative industries Martin Foley announced the projects, which will be completed by October 2018, as part of Regional Arts Victoria’s $2.1m Small Town Transformation program.
Mr Foley said the successful towns were “about to embark on an ambitious adventure that puts artistic practice at the centre of their community life” and potentially help drive tourism and boost local economies.
“While these grants are substantial, ultimately transformation is priceless,” he said.
