Acting facilities and recreation manager Jarrod Woff said Recreation Give It A Go was a key health and well-being initiative that delivered physical and social benefits across the shire.
“In 2016 we had over 62 activities and more than 2000 participants take part in the program,” he said when presenting the report to council this week.
However, participation rates and the number of clubs signing on new members had decreased.
“The participation rates of Recreation Give It A Go 2016 coupled with the financial pressure of rate capping prompt a review and refocus of the program for 2017,” Mr Woff said.
Councillor Neil Trotter said the recreation week was a great opportunity for people to try new activities and boost health and well-being.
“We have areas in the shire where… we have real need for greater participation, particularly with children and women in some age groups. We should really be concentrating on getting these people more active and trying to get the rates of heart disease and obesity down in the shire,” he said.
