Koroit premiership coach Adam Dowie will front up against his protege Mathew Buck when the Saints host South Warrnambool at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Former North Warrnambool Eagle Buck spent two seasons at Koroit as an assistant coach before landing the Roosters’ top role for the 2016 Hampden league season.

Buck said he was excited to coach against his former club.

“We’ll speak about their players and things I know about them,” he said.

“The things I know about them are positive to be honest – it’s hard to find holes.

“I am focused on what we want to do better, not so much dismantling the opposition at this stage.

“I am confident in the way we’ve been playing.”

Buck and Dowie – both teachers – keep in regular contact.

“I will probably enjoy it (coaching against Adam) and have a little grin on my face when we see each other,” Buck said.

“We talk most weeks about how footy is going and how our opponents are going.

“I have no secrets that might bring him undone.”

The two sides entered the season in different phases - the Saints eyeing a third straight flag and the Roosters continual development.

But they take identical 4-2 win-loss records into the round seven clash.

Buck said the Roosters learned lessons from their most recent game, a humbling loss to Warrnambool.

“At different stages we didn’t handle their high-end pressure enough,” he said.
