Walter Allen Knightly was fishing with friends in 1964 when a freak wave overturned his boat.
One of his fishing companions, William Smith, also drowned. A memorial for Mr Smith was installed late last year.
Glenelg Shire Council voted unanimously to install the memorial after Mr Knightly’s daughter put forward a request.
