Teams in the under 13, 15 and 17 age groups have been selected to wear the WCNA colours at the Netball Victoria Association Championships.
To be played at Ballarat this coming Sunday, the championships will feature associations from right across the state.
High quality coaches have been selected to guide the WCNA teams with Danielle McInerney leading the under 13s, Lisa Pope the under 15s and Marg Morgan the under 17s.
Morgan said the squads in each age group are well balanced.
“In our under 13 team there is a great variation with some smaller girls and some taller ones, it is a good mix,” Morgan said.
“The majority of the under 15 team played together in the state league competition in the pre-season.
“They know each other well and we have been able to bring in a couple of players to top up.
“I was really happy when we started training for the under 17 team, the girls that turned up fitted what we needed perfectly position wise, it is a very talented line-up.”
There will be plenty of incentives for strong performances at both a personal and team level at the championships.
The most successful teams will advance to a higher competition in Melbourne while there will be some keen eyes watching for the stars of the future.
“The best part about the championships is the talent identification that happens there,” Morgan said.
“This talent identification is not just in the under 17s but right through to the younger girls.
“There are some really strong pathways in place through Netball Victoria and the talent people there don’t miss much.
“They will be noting the names of girls and following up in the months and years to come as to what progress they are making.
“It is very exciting for our girls to be able to get that kind of exposure and to play against such quality opposition.”
