Dylan Kelly, 22, of Hibiscus Avenue, appeared in the Warrnambool court on Monday and was granted bail on the condition he live at the Bunjil Warra aborigine rehabilitation centre and report to Hastings police.
He will be back in court on June 27 and is now allowed to see his children, but not at their home.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said there was ample evidence Mr Kelly had committed family violence in the presence of his children and despite an application by the mother of the children to vary the order, the magistrate said it was essential the children were protected.
Mr Kelly is not to go within 100 metres of the children's home.
He was jailed for two days after a minor breach of the intervention order about 10 days ago and then charged again with similar offending.
Solicitor Xavier Farrelly said the intervention order between the couple hadn't been altered previously because of the woman's concerns about her children and the involvement of a government agency.
Mr Kelly has also been arrested for the theft of two cars and fraudulent use of number plates.
In November last year Kelly was fined $5000 and placed on a 12-month corrections order after he headbutted the woman, choked her and dragged her along the road while she was holding their two-year-old daughter.
A magistrate said Kelly was "on thin ice" but that did not relate to a new charge of possessing crystal methamphetamine.
