Market to support mums

NEW mums will need to go to church on Sunday but not for the reasons you might think.

St Pius Church Hall will be the perfect venue this weekend when doors open for the Baby Bonanza market.

Everything from prams to crafts will be packed into stalls, which are raising funds for the Warrnambool chapter of the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

Trainee counsellor and bonanza co-ordinator Emma Fry described the day as an important event on the group’s calendar to help it provide support for new mothers.

“This is a fund-raiser for the local group — we’ve already got a whole hall dedicated to furniture, cots, prams and car seats,” Ms Fry said.

The community group hopes to notch up $3000 to support programs including counsellor training and education classes.

Ms Fry said the group also offered new mothers a hospital-grade breast pump hire — often essential in cases where babies are born prematurely or when a mother is returning to work.

The market kicks off on Sunday at 11am.
