Despite much pre-season hype about the clubs, Camperdown sits in the middle of the table, while Port Fairy has just one win to its name after a tough opening month that has pitted it against the three top sides from last season.
Port Fairy will be coming off a 14-day break for the match – a rest which came at the right time for the Seagulls, according to Evans.
“We’ve had a lot of tough games and we had some sore bodies,” he said.
“Dan Nicholson was sore and probably shouldn’t have played that game (against North Warrnambool Eagles), but he’s a strong character and wanted to play.”
Former Geelong Cats VFL footballer Jackson Hollmer made his return from a shoulder reconstruction in the Seagulls’ last outing and, while he was below his usual standards, Evans said it was important he got some touch.
Jake Evans was omitted from the side to take on Camperdown, with Adam McCosh brought in to replace him in the ruck.
After struggling in front of goal against North Warrnambool Eagles two weeks ago – the Seagulls kicked 5.18 – coach Evans said his side knew where it needed to improve on Saturday.
