Hoop Steven Arnold led Rata Tat Tat to his first win on the final day of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival.
Rata Tat Tat ($3.80) defeated the Ciaron Maher-trained Styleman ($5) and Cliff Hanger ($9), under the tutelage of Lee and Anthony Freedman, in a 1200-metre two-year-old handicap.
Wilde, who used to train in partnership with his father Bill before branching out on his own, said Rata Tat Tat was a bargain buy.
They bought him at a VOBIS gold yearling sale for $25,000 in 2015 and a number of Koroit residents are part-owners.
“Dad found him,” he said.
“We were going to keep him ourselves and unfortunately when we were breaking him in Dallas Ludeman came to the stables one day and put his head over the fence and said ‘what’s this?’.
“And we explained and he said ‘right, I’ve got the whole lot, I’ll take it’ and his crew have probably done Dad and I out of a bit of money.”
Wilde said Rata Tat Tat was set for a big career.
“We have a big opinion of this horse,” he said.
“I think he’s got a lot of upside. I reckon he’ll make a really, really good three-year-old. If you have a look at him, he’s not quite furnished yet and that’s probably the most exciting thing.”
Jockey Steven Arnold said Rata Tat Tat was a striking type.
"He's a nice big strong horse. He's got a bit of ability,” he said.
