Tuesday's Brierly Steeplechase winner Valedicton carries the hopes of Waterhouse and favourite punters as he tries to win the feature jumps race of the three-day carnival. Maher is trying to win his third Grand Annual in seven years with last year's winner Regina Coeli, while Musgrove attempts to win the gruelling 5500-metre race with top-weight Thubiaan who has to lump 69.5kgs over the 33 fences.
Waterhouse said Valediction was at peak fitness.
"It's so exciting to have a runner in one of the greatest races on the Australian racing calendar,” she said.
