Leaders trainers, jockeys, administrators and bookmakers started the week with a golf day at the Terang Golf Club on Monday. For the second year in a row, the club hosted a celebrity golf day. Multiple Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Damien Oliver headed the star-studded field to hit the course.
Other prominent jockeys to take part included Brad Rawiller, Damian Thornton and Jason Patten. Now retired legendary Camperdown jockey Neville Wilson was also on course.
South-west racing identities Bill Wilde and Aaron Purcell led a strong contingent of trainers. Other trainers hitting off included Dan O’Sullivan, Glen Thornton and Chris Calthorpe.
May Racing Carnival master of ceremonies Rob Gaylard, prominent bookmaker Kevin Saber and Warrnambool Racing Club committee member John Hutson were also there. The event contested was a 12-hole two person ambrose competition.
The winning team was made up of Rob Cornelissen and Terang Racing Club president Wayne Johnstone. In second place were Brendan Kenna and Tony Grundy from the East Framlingham Golf Club. Bill Wilde was the most successful of the high profile racing squadron, finishing third with teammate Graham Bourke.
The event is the brainchild of former local Gavin Kenna who has sourced sponsorship for it through his role as the general manager of Mitavite Asia.
