More than 20mm of rain on Sunday forced Warrnambool Racing Club track manager Daniel Lumsden to rate the surface a soft six, pleasing Regina Coeli's trainer Ciaron Maher.
"She's going to like the give in the track," Maher said. "She's had two runs in steeplechases on tracks this time in work that she does not like but the surface in the Brierly should be ideal. We ran her in the Brierly last year before her winning run in the Grand Annual so we thought there was no need to change the winning formula."
The three-time winning Grand Annual Steeplechase trainer said he was happy that Irish born jumps jockey John Allen was riding the seven-year-old.
"John is riding in career best form," Maher said.
"He's an excellent horseman.”
