West-bound traffic was reduced to one lane and regularly stopped on Monday as VicRoads carried out resurfacing works on the highway.
The Derby Street-Raglan Parade intersection will be one of the busiest in the city over the next three days.
However VicRoads regional director Mark Koliba reassured race-goers the works would be halted until next week.
“We are aware of the Warrnambool Racing Carnival being held this week and as a result, work will be suspended from Tuesday May 3, so all traffic lanes will be open during the event days,” Mr Koliba said.
“Work will recommence in the week commencing Monday May 9. Speed restrictions will still apply in the area as works are still progressing and we ask motorists to drive safely. The South Western Alliance thanks the community and motorists for their patience.”
