The Blues turned a six-goal three-quarter-time lead into a 49-32 victory at Mack Oval on Saturday, ending the Kangaroos’ four-game winning streak in the process.
Nirranda, which sits second with four wins and a draw, executed the plan coach Steph Jamieson put in place at the final change when the game was in the balance.
Jamieson said she was thrilled with the Blues’ finish after they “put the foot down”.
“The transitioning from defence to attack (improved).
“I think I was a little bit too focused on coaching, so I needed to step aside and really focus on my game as a player and what I needed to do and work a little bit more with Jo (Couch), Lisa (Couch) and Kristy (Ludeman) and on looking after the ball.”
“They are very young and a very quick team and for us to match them I was really impressed, especially with it being a back and forth and back and forth type of game.
“It’s nice knowing if times do get tough that we can step it up and push ahead.”
Jamieson said Lisa Couch, in her first full game of the season, gave the Blues stability in the midcourt.
“I will really focus on getting Lise nice and match fit more than anything, because she’s coming to trainings week in, week out, so she know’s game plan and knows what we’re doing,” she said.
“I will probably rotate her and Kristy through the midcourt so she can get that fitness into her and give her the run in the legs.”
Nirranda hosts Panmure, which is coming off a one-goal win over Old Collegians, on Sunday.
