The 13-year-old has earned a spot on the Victorian under 15 team for the School Sport Australia Australian Football Championships to be held at Maroochydore in July.
Renee, who plays under 14 football with Hampden club Warrnambool, said she was pleased with her selection after putting in the hard yards.
“I had to get up at five in the morning and travel in to Melbourne (for trials),” she said.
“I’m very excited … it’ll give me good experience.”
After two trial days, the pool of 90 girls was cut back to 50, with Renee among those invited to a final trial.
On Thursday, she got the call that she had made the team of 25.
Renee, who has been playing football since she was six years old, has taken her game to another level in the past 12 months.
She was best on ground in her first match for Western Rebels at the Subway Shield last September and earned a spot in the North Ballarat Rebels academy over summer.
She has also signed up with South Warrnambool women’s team, which is set to play a curtain-raiser match ahead of the Hampden league’s interleague clash with Ovens and Murray at Reid Oval on May 21.
Renee said she typically plays through the midfield and up forward, with a preference for the wing.
With more opportunities opening up for her, Renee said she has dreams of playing in the Women's AFL down the track, though playing in girls-only matches took some getting used to.
“It’s different being with girls, because I grew up playing with boys,” she said.
Renee thanked her parents and Warrnambool coaches for their support.
