Blues coach Emma Cust said the open grade side was put through its paces on Monday and Friday nights in a bid to make the most of goal attack Amy Wormald’s availability.
Wormald, who is based in Melbourne, usually misses the Blues’ twice weekly runs.
Warrnambool meets undefeated Camperdown at Leura Oval on Saturday.
Cust said the Blues would enter the round four battle heeding lessons from its first defeat of the season, an eight-goal loss to Koroit.
“I felt we didn’t get the combinations right against Koroit,” she said.
“I wasn’t sure how they’d line up but I have a bit more of an idea against Camperdown.
"We haven’t used the ball well.
“The first two weeks we got away with it because of our defensive pressure.
“We have to be more accountable with our passes.”
Cust said preparation was key as all 10 teams implemented different game styles.
“(Koroit) with Nell (Mitchell) in goals try and bomb it high to her and she shoots the majority of goals,” she said.
“The Finch sisters (Jaymie and Emily) are equal in the goal scoring and play more of a moving game.”
The former Port Fairy mentor, who has returned to coaching after a break, said she learned from the game against the Saints.
“I felt like against Koroit we got caught off guard,” she said.
“I felt I didn’t make the correct positional changes.
“Koroit was quicker than I thought they were going to be with Olivia Niddrie’s pace on the court.
“Koroit used to play a slower, contested game with Jacqui (Bowman), Kate (Foster) and Kate (Dobson).”
Cust said Warrnambool, which won its first two games, was determined to start strongly against Camperdown.
In other games, reigning premier North Warrnambool Eagles are on the rebound against Portland, which played on Anzac Day and is coming off a five-day break.
Hamilton Kangaroos will strive to put its home-court advantage to good use when they host Terang Mortlake under lights. The Roos are chasing their first win of the season.
Port Fairy and Koroit, which faced off in a standalone fixture prior to round one, have a bye.
Their bye coincides with the Koroit Irish Festival.
