“We’ll be popping the bottles of champagne,” chief executive David Lee said.
The health centre is undergoing a $4.8 million redevelopment, with the State Government’s contribution going towards the construction of an urgent care facility integrated within the hospital section of the building.
“This will improve the connectivity between the nursing home and the hospital,” Mr Lee said.
“The main benefit is we’re eliminating any clinical risk from having the urgent care facility at one end of the building and the hospital at the other end of the building.”
Mr Lee thanked the State Government and Health Minister Jill Hennessy for the contribution but especially praised Member for Western Victoria James Purcell.
“We’re really grateful for the support of local member James Purcell,” Mr Lee said.
“He’s been very attentive to our requests for assistance and lobbied for our cause in parliament and we’re very appreciative of his support.”
Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell said the funding announcement was “really good news”.
"I'm really pleased about the Moyne Health Services getting funded for their new urgent care facility,” Ms Britnell said.
“We've been working really hard to advocate for that and Denis Napthine prior to me. It's been a long time coming, but it's here now."
Mr Lee said the $4.8 million redevelopment aimed to “future-proof” the hospital, with the new works allowing for a second-storey expansion which is hoped will accommodate dental services and expanded aged care facilities.
However this further development is contingent on federal funding – Mr Lee said Moyne Health Services is lobbying member for Wannon Dan Tehan for a further $1.2 million to outfit a second-storey expansion.
“The Commonwealth budget comes out next week so hopefully we’ll be successful,” Mr Lee said.
