Port Fairy division one captain Shane Gurnett was pleased his team was on the board after it went down in its opening encounter.
“We were happy to get a win after losing a close one against Warrnambool last week,” he said.
“We won 4-3, so it could’ve gone either way.
“It’s a very tight competition this year, and I think Hamilton have shown they’re clearly the team to beat after a couple of good wins.”
Gurnett said it was good to see Matt Cameron win his first two games for the season, while Chris Dunn was also two from two.
In other results, Hamilton defeated Warrnambool four matches to three, while Timboon got its first win, defeating Portland five matches to two.
