Big games from Illawarra Hawks NBL recruit Tim Coenraad (25 points, six rebounds, two assists), Daniel Joyce (23 points, five assists) and Ben Allen (15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists) wasn't enough to clinch a win in Canberra's first home game of the campaign.
The Gunners are 0-3 but have lost narrowly on each occasion. Ballarat committed 27 turnovers to Canberra's nine but compensated by shooting 53 per cent from the field and made 12 of 28 three-pointers.

The Miners, featuring off-contract Canberra Capitals WNBL youngster Abbey Wehrung, trailed by a point at the main break but dominated the second half 43-23.
Maddison Penn racked up 15 points and four rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench for Canberra.
