WDBD chairman of selectors Ron Horne said Corangamite division won all four shields in 2011.
“It was a very good day, a complete reversal to last year when we didn’t pick up a trophy,” he said.
The opening day is open to male and female bowlers from the Western District, Corangamite and Far Western bowls divisions.
In the Boyse-Alford trophy, Western District had a convincing win against Far Western.
It won all six rinks and finished 12 points and 44 shots up, outclassing Far Western on six points and eight shots up.
WDBD had to work harder to win the McDowall-Williams trophy. It defeated Corangamite, nine points and 25 shots up to seven points and minus 11 shots. The Mark McDonald-led WDBD team claimed the executive trophy.
Each division nominated one rink to compete for the title.
McDonald’s team of Graeme Kirsher, Glenda Ritchie and Margaret Sumner defeated Far Western, four points and 13 shots up to four points and two shots up.
Far Western was the only other division to win an event.
It collected the regional representatives trophy, winning four of six rinks against Corangamite.
Far Western won with eight points and 14 shots up to six points and minus three shots.
Horne said 80 bowlers took part in the second West Coast Region opening day at Warrnambool Bowls Club.
Western District division and Far Western division start their pennant seasons this coming weekend, while round one of the Corangamite division season began on Saturday.
