Portland hoon driver’s lucky escape

A YOUNG Portland driver was lucky to escape uninjured after a piece of timber pierced his car door on Saturday night.

Police said the 21-year-old had been hoon driving in the gravel car park at Alexandra Park when he lost control of his vehicle about 6pm and smashed into a wooden barrier.

Senior Sergeant Russell Tharle said a piece of treated pine pierced the driver’s side door.

“It could have been very dangerous.” He said the man had been attempting to show off with two passengers in his car.
