A CORANGAMITE Shire Council office in Terang and an independent living retirement village in Camperdown are two of the ideas put forward as part of plans for the two towns.
Council’s community development officer Garry Moorfield said residents who attended recent “soap box” meetings in Terang and Camperdown presented the ideas.
He said the events would help inform council plans.
About 50 people attended the Terang meeting and ideas presented included forming a group to represent the town in political circles, improving the aesthetic of the town and cleaning up shop frontages.
In Camperdown there was a push to re-energise Advance Camperdown, co-locating the showgrounds with the race track, upgrading streetscapes and safer road crossings.
Mr Moorfield said Advance Camperdown, the town’s progress group, had had difficulty attracting people.
“It’s a useful opportunity to say what people want in their towns and to also come up with some consensus,” he said.
“They might find their way into the council plan.”
Mr Moorfield said when projects were identified they could be undertaken locally or funding could be sourced.
“When we do apply for funding we can say that this project represents the whole town,” he said.
“Projects which seem impossible to achieve can be done. This is all about the community getting involved to make their own future.”
There will be a public meeting in Camperdown to discuss the proposed projects on October 30 at the Theatre Royal at 7.30pm and in Terang on November 15 at the Rose Room at the Terang Civic Centre at 7.30pm.
