Hunt for knife thugs after Warrnambool attack

POLICE say a cowardly attack on a defenceless man will not be tolerated.

The victim  was walking east on Pertobe Road when he was approached by a male on a bike at 1.30am yesterday morning, officers said.

Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, from the Warrnambool crime investigation unit, said a silver car, believed to be a hatchback, pulled up at the same time.

He said a woman was driving the car, which three males got out of and the victim started to run.

The victim was followed by the males into Surfside Holiday Park and a knife was produced.

The victim was kicked while on the ground and his leg was slashed.

Detective Senior Constable Ryan said when the victim was able to free himself he hid in nearby bushes. The attackers stole his mobile phone and some cash.

Detective Senior Constable Ryan said the attackers were not known to the victim.

He said the male on the bike was wearing dark clothing and a dark cap.

“We are appealing for any persons with any information in relation to this crime to contact police,” he said.

“If anyone is aware of the identity of the driver, please contact police.

“The people responsible for this cowardly attack of a defenceless male will not be tolerated by the Warrnambool community. Every assistance is urgently required.”
